  2. My March 2017 garden is full of very interesting pumpkins but not a true Windsor black in sight. My open pollinated seeds have bred a very close to black Windsor, several Hubbard squash shaped ones and even an orange pumpkin. The seeds all came from Windsor black pumpkin but were open pollinated. I suggest that this is why the Windsor black is rare, because it seems to cross with every other pumpkin in the area. The orange pumpkins were grown in another paddock by my mum ,she grew the same type every year. Now I have a lovely reminder of her in my pumpkin patch. I lost mum last June. This will be my first pumpkin crop with out the mum who gave me my love of pumpkins .I think of her every time I see that one orange, Windsor shaped, pumpkin in amongst the dark green ones, very ironic.
